Third out, famed trick rider Ginger Duke entered the arena in style by roman riding two of her mustangs dressed as ruby slippers – the perfect complement to her Dorothy. Second, Elisa Wallace and her mustang, Rune, showed us how versatile these amazing horses can truly be by diving into a variety of disciplines in just six short minutes…including a surprise zebu appearance! She and her mustang, Magic, dressed in lights which added to the scene as the routine showcased one of Katie’s true talents – working at liberty. On Friday, January 20th, Maddie Rose and Six White Horses started things off before eight of the brightest mustang trainers in the country brought their all to the near sold out Will Rogers Coliseum crowd.įirst up, Katie Moore danced us into a southern night surrounded by fireflies. The performance must include at least one branded mustang and, beyond that, the sky is the creative limit! This freedom of creation provides an incredible range of performances and this year was no exception. CELEBRITY FREESTYLEįor those unfamiliar, trainers invited to participate in the Celebrity Freestyle event have six minutes to showcase a choreographed freestyle act to the crowd. Both events are held during the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo and competing trainers are hand-selected by Mustang Heritage Foundation for their abilities and previous MHF/EMM program experience. 2023 marked the return of the full Mustang Magic program which included two events – the Trainer’s Challenge and the ever-popular Celebrity Freestyle. The last few years have been tough on in-person events and Mustang Magic is no exception. The lesson of Mustang Maddy and the amazing Amira ring true: there is greatness in us all if we choose to see the beauty within.Another Successful Mustang Magic in the books ![]() In their fairytale freestyle performance, Madison showcased the incredible talents of Amira-a horse once cast off and considered unwanted. Amira will join Maddy and her team of trained mustangs to travel the country and raise awareness for the mustangs still awaiting adoption, as well as to educate the public on equine behavior and communication techniques to achieve more successful horse-human relationships. She was successful in adopting Amira and will be giving her a forever home. Maddy used the money she won in the competition to bid on Amira herself. ![]() Maddy and Amira captivated the sold-out audience with her freestyle performance, earning a standing ovation and the championship title. After the competition, the trained mustangs are auctioned off to the public to be put into caring homes. These competitions serve to showcase the trainability of America’s wild horses and raise awareness for the some 40,000 mustangs currently waiting in holding pens to be adopted. Mustang Maddy trained Amira for the Mustang Heritage Foundation's Mustang Magic competition, in which trainers have less than 130 days to train a wild mustang. The “U” in her bran.d marks Amira as a “3-striker,” meaning she was passed up for adoption-unwanted-three times by no fault of her own. 1236, now known as “Amira.”ġ26 days ago, Amira was wild-one of the BLM’s 46,000+ mustangs in holding waiting for adoption. ![]()
